1000 Hills Rugby Ready for a Historic 2025 Genocide Memorial Tournament
The countdown is on as 1000 Hills Rugby prepares to make its mark at the highly anticipated 2025 Genocide Memorial Tournament (GMT) on Saturday, June 21, 2025. This year’s edition is more special than ever, filled with milestones that reflect both the growth of our organization and the progress of Rwandan rugby.
For the first time in history, the tournament will be hosted at the newly refurbished Amahoro National Stadium, an international rugby-standard facility. This world-class venue offers a safe, inspiring, and professional environment for players and fans alike a major leap forward in the exposure of local rugby talent and a clear signal that Rwanda is ready to host future international rugby events.
As we prepare to compete on this grand stage, both our Men’s and Women’s teams will proudly represent the organization’s values of resilience, unity, and ambition. The inclusion of our Women’s Team for the first time ever in the tournament’s history marks a new era of growth and equality for 1000 Hills Rugby.

Since our GMT debut in 2015, when we reached the final as the newest organization in the Rwanda Rugby Federation, 1000 Hills Rugby has proudly built a strong legacy as champions in 2016, 2017, and 2018, and secured third place in 2019. After COVID-19 paused the tournament in 2020 and 2021, our return in 2022 secured 3rd place and 2023 saw us reach the final against Lion de Fer RFC.
In 2025, the hunger to reclaim the title is stronger than ever driven by experience, talent, and leadership. Three Senior legends Isimbi Carlos (C), Mugisha Robert, and Rukundo Roger will proudly play their 7th consecutive GMT tournament under the 1000 Hills jersey, having been part of all three championship wins. Their story is a testament to the passion and endurance that define our team.

We are equally proud and grateful for the support of our tournament sponsor, Power Resources International, whose generous partnership fuels our sporting success and community-driven mission for social change and sustainable livelihoods through rugby.
"This year is not just about chasing a trophy, it’s about making history in a world-class stadium, inspiring the next generation, and showing that Rwanda is ready to host rugby on the international stage."
Mugabo Jimy, Director of Rugby, 1000 Hills Rugby
As we step onto this prestigious field, we carry with us the hopes of our supporters, the trust of our sponsors, and the spirit of unity that the GMT represents.
